    Refinishing a scope

Does anyone know whether the complete outer casing of an AO scope can be refinished? Guns can be reblacked of course but how are these sensitive optical instruments refinished / refurbished? If indeed, they can be. Any illuminating answers would be useful. I have Paul Burkes details, but I'm not sure it's a PB thing!

Cerakote or Durucote can be used to refinish optics

different thing entirely really but i have refinished fishing rods with 2 pack auto aerosol paint.it is very tough stuff and i applied it with the rod turning in a makeshift lathe.the rotation helps prevent runs.a certain amount of masking would be needed for a scope i presume and any imperfections could be ironed out with fine abrasives and t-cut.down side would be cost i suppose(£12 a tin).rods certainly come out like new with a bit of effort.just a thought or should i get my coat?. All thoughts gratefully received. I must admit sounds technically challenging. I would be inteeested to hear from anyone that's had success with cerakote. I'm not sure how thick it is and whether an adjustable objective is a no no.

I have painted hundreds of guns with Cerakote (and Duracoat or Gunkote), Cerakote is by far the best for metal.

For scopes you need the C series which air cures (H series is 2 pack, much much tougher but needs oven baking to cure) like everything else in painting preparation is everything, masking is critical and for best results you need a dust free environment, professional spray guns with a properly filtered and dried air supply and ideally an air fed mask as its not nice to breath.

It goes on at 0.0005" so its very very thin and with proper masking AO is no issue

Another vote for Cerakote C Series, better than original finish on a lot of scopes I've had done IMO.

Ok. That's brilliant. Next question. Who would you recommend to carry out the Cerakote C series treatment if I were to outsource to a specialist. Doesn't need to be local as it's a scope. Anyone careful, and skilled (and not silly money?) that you guys know of or even better have used?
