    Steyr LP50 series

Can some one, who really knows, please advise if this pistol range is banned or legal in the UK?

If banned will the same happen to Weihrauch's HW44?, if not why not as both are multi shot.

    Many thanks.

A lengthy thread about this has been running in General Airgun over the last week or so.

The fact is you are not likely to get a definitive answer, because there isn't one. The law as written is very poorly worded and open to interpretation.

Steyr may be self loading which is the problem area.
    HW44 isn't so no problem.
44 also ugly but not relevant to question.

    I never thought...

    My by-line was so apt!

Its a real can or worms, surely the manufacturers have enough muscle to get a clear cut answer?, maybe not.

If you could classify the over 6lb pistols as short barrel rifles that could resolve one problem....hmmm
Which begs another question - "What defines a gun as a pistol or a rifle" - it can't be ft lbs.

    Thanks everyone for your insight.

Legal. Self indexing as opposed to self loading apparently.

Great news on the clarification of this. Just out of interest if it had been a smooth twist barrel rather than rifled, would it have also been exempt?
