    Stoeger XP4

Anyone seen this new Stoeger air pistol.
Looks like a HW40/P17 rip off.
I might have been interested if they hadnt gone for those damn fibre optic sights.
Hate the things.....wreck accuracy and look crap.

    Me too.

But it is "infused with our lineage of firearms expertise". (Who writes this nonsense?)

To be fair to them, all the top-cover charged SSPs are variations on the same theme: FAS, Nemesis, HW40/P17, Gamo PR14/45, AF10, Compact, HW75, etc. So I wouldn't call it a rip-off. And it looks nicer than the over-styled HW40.

I would agree with you Geezer ....its got the edge due to the lack of vertical lines at the muzzle and looks better for having the foresight right at the muzzle.

I recently replaced a fibre optic set up on a 40 which was annoying one of my club compardres.
Simply slipped out the fibre optics and let in some solid bespoke machined Black Delrin inserts.
The 1mm dia. Delrin for the rearsight prob best just using some black epoxy.

Jokes apart if your eyes are still reasonable you will get twice the precision out of a set of regular sights.
There was an interesting article on this in Guns and Ammo which even incl the blacking out of the rear sights old time white dots for more precsion, relying on just a white spot on the foresight.

I see they have changed the advert blurb. It is no longer "infused". It is now "the culmination of our line game of firearms expertise". Which is a funny way of saying "this is a cheap air pistol made in China".

Kidding aside, it looks nice and is probably a good gun. Solware have some interesting offers on them - including that you can get one for £30 is you buy another gun of some type at the same time.

    Thumbs up

I've got one now, find the trigger has a smooth & predictable trigger, better than other clones,& has great styling only negative the usual auto safety. ...mike...

    Hello all from Paris, France.
I've had this Stoeger xp4 from quite a while now.
the piston is NOT the same as HW 40 and Beeman P17.

It is precise, it shoots straight, same sights.
BUT definitely a lack of power.
bullets do not obliterate the paper target correctly...
To get correct round holes in the target you need to:
    1) get more power from the piston : add a 2 mm metal round (why not a coin) and glue it wih epoxy 2 composants glue to the top of the piston.
    2) you have to rework the barrel entry, so that all pellets would fire
    3) you have to re-shroud the end of the barrel

    in a few words :
    better exterior design (Italian maybe)
low quality control on the barell finish
low power piston that needs 2 mm extra to work decently.
    same truglo style sights (exactly)
it is around €100 in France, but if you add the time you have to spend on it to make it work well, maybe it's not worse to buy...

HW40 is €140 in France, it is ugly but works well out of the box, without rework...
I hope you'll pardon my poor English.
    greetings from Montmartre, Paris.

Hmmm I really like the looks compared to the 40 & clones

    Scoured around for more info.

Stoegers website is pretty good and more details on the pistol here:

    http://intl.stoegerairguns.com/media...%20-%20XP4.pdf

Upper and lower rails have potential but I wouldn't use either.

I'm itching to find a price on it though as I've got one eye on getting either the HW40 again

Or it's over half RRP price Chinese cousin Mr P17

Now if the stoeger falls inbetween those two prices, I think it's serious consideration time

My feeling is more than likely it will be priced closer to the HW40 though

Shall have to see if any of my local dealers no more pricing info.

Yes I prefer the Black IMO looks nicer than that military green.

I've sent various gunshops emails asking if they are stocking and estimated RRP will update the thread should I receive any updates

Ok had some shall I say interesting replies to my emails

Won't mention any gunshop names but some replies:

Biggish importer down south says no news yet on the RRP but will have the item live on the website in the future

Dutch gunshop who I have had numerous air rifles from says it wil almost certainly be against the law over there because it looks too much like a real gun they must have different laws in Holland

Biggish midlands gunshop says they have not stocked the stoeger XP4 as the beeman & HW40 are best for the money

That one has confused me and I have sent a reply saying without the RRP of the stoeger how can it be compared?

Still waiting for a few more gunshops to reply to emails and will update in due course

I can't get that excited about a rebadged P17 TBH.
And I strongly suspect it will be a P17 in another outer shell, and not a HW40....
If this is the case then the gunshop is quite right in stating that the P17 is better value for money (I thought an RRP had already been put forward, that was between the P17 and HW40?).

Replicas of any kind are verboten in Holland btw.
    Good deals with these members
