    recommendations please

    Hi,
Can I have some recommendations please.
I'm looking for a pistol for some back garden plinking/target shooting. I don't want to get involved with co2. What's available/best for say, £150
    Thanks
    Dave

I agree with the 2nd hand Alecto suggestion, but disagree that spring pistols are rubbish - they just take a bit more work!

    A few other ideas:
New Baikal IZH-53M (well under your budget, shoots well, long sight radius)
2nd hand HW45 (classic, well made, good trigger, won't lose money if you sell it on)
New Crosman 1377 (multi-pump pneumatic, very customisable)
2nd hand BSA Scorpion (classic, very powerful)

    Avoid like the plague:
    BSA 240 magnum
    Newer Webleys (Alecto notwithstanding)
    HW70
    SMK crap

    Disagree.

I have one and it's one of the best pistols I've ever owned. And I've had more or less the lot in my 35 years shooting.
It's compact, easy to cock and very accurate. The trigger is a delight too.
I can only speak for the .177 version but it's a punchy little fella for it's size.

Others to consider (in my opinion):

    Diana LP5
    Diana 6M
    Cometa Indian
    Crosman Medallist
Webley Tempest/Hurricane/Typhoon (not the new Typhoon)

I'm sure you've had a good time with yours, but you are very much in the minority with your experience.
Most of them are utter shite.
If the OP buys one 2nd hand it is unlikely to be a 'good one' as people tend to keep hold of them. So unless he can try before he buys, my recommendation remains the same: avoid like the plague.

    Hw40

Got to agree with hw40, for garden plinking/informal target shooting its hard to beat at the price. Self contained, very accurate & a superb trigger, you could get one AND 5000 rounds of rws basics(which they shoot well) for about £150. & no, I'm not on commission!

ok, I admit it, I've got a problem.

Agreed. Though I'm not sure about the HW70. And I would add in the desirable category any variant of the Diana/Original model 5 or 6.

Perhaps even a bargain FWB65 if the OP is lucky?

I was distinctly unimpressed with the HW70. Very vague trigger, not all that accurate.
It's fairly well put together I suppose but aside from that a very unremarkable gun.

The OP is after a springer Mr SnBum

A FWB65 for £150. That would be a very lucky day

    Daisy

    You can get a 2nd hand Daisy Powerline 717 for £70 - £150.

Awesome pneumatic pistol, great for plinking, perfect for a bit of target.

    A joy to shoot.
