Valuation of my Walther LGV Spezial

Power was low so I got Dave Mercer to reseal it. Now working perfectly.

Bluing faded in parts but no rust or pitting. Honest wear through use. Nice stock in decent condition. Bluing on barrel beneath shroud fine apart from one small mark which I keep greased.

I can't make up my mind whether to keep this or sell it. If I keep it I may have the stock refinished by a professional and the gun reblued by Colin Malloy. If I decided to sell it, which I probably won't, at least not in the near future, it wouldn't really be worth spending money I wouldn't get back. I'm fairly happy with it the way it is, actually. It's in pretty good nick for its age, and has not been abused.

Anyway the reason for this post is to ask you what you think it is worth:

For my rather pathetic attempts at standing shots, I prefer to use it with the shroud removed, because of my age.

With the shroud on it provides excellent stability for rested shots with diopter or scope. I have a weaver extended rail and mounts for use with a scope. I occasionally take it to the range, but use it mostly in the garden - well, in the garage, shooting out into the garden. I wouldn't want to get it wet.

A difficult rifle to put a value on. Quite niche and they don't come up for sale too often. Probably a small but keen pool of buyers for them.
I paid £200 for mine last year in a private sale, which I consider a bargain. It's in similar condition to yours I'd say. Knowing what I know about them now, I would have no problem paying a fair bit more than that for one. They are superb and I'd never part with mine.

Yes, Drew, they are nice, aren't they?

Your estimation of value pretty much corresponds with my own. There isn't much of a market for them.

Well, looks like I spoke to soon.

I used the LGV for about 30 minutes, shooting from inside out into the garden at the weekend.

My back has been screwed up for the last two days. I used the rifle standing with shroud both attached and removed. I'm pushing seventy, but not weak. My upper body is quite strong, but after numerous prolapsed discs and spinal surgery, I just can't use this gun any more except bench rested. I couldn't twist my back enough to get my elbow on to my hip bone, and the pain was going down into my legs.

A HW30s is about all I can manage now, and I'm mainly shooting air pistol these days.

So I'm going to have to put it in the sales section towards the end of the week, and put the money towards a better air pistol than I have got.

My Diana 75 has already gone.

I suppose my FWB 300s will have to go the same way.
