Sending pistols back to mainland Europe for servicing.

Recently I've read posts by people who have sent guns back to the makers for servicing.

One was a Pardini and the other a Walther.

    How does that work?

I thought it was impossible to send guns with air cylinders by post these days.

Or did they just send the guns without the cylinders?

    Don't cylinders need servicing too?

There are some carriers who are authorised to carry dangerous goods by air and some by road so it can be carried by one of those.
Having been through both courses i cant imagine how any RFD would be able to send items that would need to be specially packed and with specialist paperwork and a member of staff trained and authorised to send it?After all we read of plenty of forum users who have problems, but your RFD can send and receive guns ok
So have the manufactures/wholesalers got a special arrangement with a road carrier?or the Royal Mail?
As for the cylinders some years ago the manufactures in Europe got together and i beleive self imposed the ten yr. rule the capacity of probably most cylinders is below our UK "Pressure Vessel" regs, so its down to the eyeball exam,my RFDwill not accept for repair even any gun who's cylinder shows signs of abuse or poor care unless the customer agrees to having a new cylinder supplied.
A few years back my wife had a Hamerli match pistol that Walther said they could repair it but it would have to go through the importer network and would also have to have a new cylinder or they wouldnt repair it.£400 plus carriage.

Actions still regarded as a firearm so cant be sent direct.
Running serious risk if do, most items last few years are scanned.

Have to choose from a limited supply of specialists that handle the import and export at a fee not less than £130 plus getting it to RFD equivalent other end.
Rather ones sided legal UK stuff, Europe uses our couriers that don't handle weapons to deliver and wont do the other way round.

You can send a pistol without cylinders to a uk address by parcel force 48 not parcel force 24 or special delivery. if you are not a dealer.
One problem is, if it's a gun, even if you pay the extra for enhanced compensation.

(It can be silly money as well for a £1000 air pistol)

You will only be covered up to £100.
