Sussex Interclub HFT 2017 - Round 4 RESULTS

    Hi All

Apologies for the delay in posting today’s results. I confess to being distracted by the need to spend a few hours – also hosted by Charles – setting up an FT rig in (vague) readiness for the British Air Rifle Championships. Unsure I’ll ever get the hang of that; even sitting seems a very strange position and, at the moment, less stable than a free kneeler

Big thank you to all the Oaks crew for putting out a great course for us, with some added wind just to spice things up a bit. Seemed to be quite a few people with smiles on their faces while leaving the wood, only to have a rather rapid change of mood trying to figure out how much was blowing up in the top field.

Great shooting from our pair of toppers on 57 and a special mention for our emerging Springer champ, Nigel, coming home with a 55.

Great breakfast and lunch food too, from Jax, Wurz and their wee hounds. Is it the quality of food at Mile Oaks which brings a crowd - over 80 booking in today

For the 2nd round in a row, Simmmo had no pleasure in adjusting scores downward for competitors failing to get alterations signed and cards witnessed. Well done and keep it up!

Please let me know a.s.a.p. if you spot anything you think is amiss. Have I misspelt any names? Have I put you in the wrong class? Let me know if you spot anything wrong. BBS PM or email should do the trick.

    Prize drawer winners today were:

    • Steve Micklethwaite – the £41 cash prize,
    • Wes Micklethwaite – the virtual Air Arms goody bag
    • And young Wes, keeping the whole draw in the family, won the Compair Magazine subscription

A little more shuffling among the Teams today, with Buxted stretching their Round 3 lead by a further point. Total team member scores and cumulative points won are :
    Club Round 4 Points
    Buxted 278 45
    Oaks 274 43
    Meon Valley 271 43
    Horsham 265 37
    Ford 254 29
    Swallows 252 27
    Iden Fern 249 28
    Maldon 138 27

Both MAD (with no one present) and Swallows FTC (with 3) had to rely on assistance from our rule which allows up to 3 cards drawn at random – from those NOT already selected for their own club’s team – for the shortfall of numbers.

Happy and safe shooting to you all ahead of round 5 of the 2017 SIHFT, which is in three weeks’ time on the 2nd July at Buxted. In the meantime, top shooting to all the SIHFTers competing in next weekend’s UKAHFT National round, also at Buxted.

June, at Mile Oak, shooting a SIHFT round - the very essence of summer all wrapped up in a few hours of quality shooting on the South Downs.

Thanks to Charles and the rest of the Oaks crew for setting out a cracking course and for laying on an "interesting" bit of wind on the hill.

Best bits of the day? Watching Aaron Friend almost bursting with pride as his lad Harvey went up to collect his badge, and my fellow Meon Valley club member Neil Parrott winning his first ever SIHFT Gold Badge, after 3 years of taking part in the series - moments such as these are why I love this sport so much

One of the best courses ive shot! Refreshing to see more short and mid range targets with sensible kills, rather than everything at 44 1/2 yards. The shorter ranges caught more than a few out as well, and there were some placements that made getting a comfortable position on the peg almost impossible!

Not an easy course no one cleared it, and there were lots below 50 on the day.

    Well done Oakies!

Oh and I should just mention well done all at Buxted, taking the lead from Meon and Oakies.......

    Great course, deceptively tricky.

And I have developed a new code:

    1 0 1

look like a bit of binary?

    Some kind of SOS signal?

No! It is how to crash from your first gold of the season in your last 3 shots - free stander <ding>, that bloody fairy <whoosh-moo!>, free kneeler <ding>

    from a 54 to a 50 in 3 shots.

    Knackers.

And I had to reconfigure the figure of 8 clamp - again

You were not alone, when I took it down after the shoot the fairy had very few dings on it considering close to eighty folks had shot at it.

Cheers Oakies and yep there's nothing like seeing your son/daughter enjoying it or making a great shot! We started in the field and Daisy was moaning a bit about being tired, then she got the free stander - different child from that point onwards!

That is a huge confidence booster Roger, loved to have seen her face when that dropped ;-), it gets the kids off those pesky consoles & into the fresh air for a change.....all good in my book.
My lad got pipped by 1 point by Wes, well done matey, but he was still smiling with his 42, seems to be staying above the 40 mark now & gaining confidence with every comp.

Great day it was too, my was back playing up a little (completely gone today tiling a floor) but can't blame that on my naff shooting when it mattered, the dreaded wind probably cost me 5 points on the Oaky Hill, really hard to read the wind up there but a good challenge.

Well done to everyone with some very close high scores, organisers & setters.........thanks for a safe shoot once more.
Looking forward to the next battle
