help with opening airgun cylinder valves

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if there is a tool specifically for removing the end of a cylinder on a gun, where there is a brass cylindrical end with a small nipple hole, inserting allen keys and the like just dont give enough leverage to turn them out of the cylinder end.

Any advise on a tool or device to unscrew these brass ends would be appreciated, I'm trying to fix a Alros cylinder slim version adn the FX although do come off are a pain also, but they usually turn on an allen key.

    Many Thanks

    Look here: https://www.xtxair.com/products/s200...moval-tool-hex

Phil Sellwood our local gunsmith has a very large vice with lead jaws - it's extremely useful in these situations.

Phil is a gunsmith, working from his own premises. He doesn't have a shop.

I can let you have his phone number by PM.

Remember to make sure that the cylinder is completely empty before trying to remove the ends.

    Hi Neil

Yes thank you for that, wouldnt consider even trying it without having an empty cylinder for good reasons. But it is mindful to add as new members may not think of it in due course.

Thanks also to Rich much appreciated for the details and advise.

Hopefully this tool will allow me to replace the seals inside the cylinder.

    Many thanks.

LoL just a quick heads up as to a perfect removal tool for removing the Alros cylinder ends I used last night in the repair. If you have an old strimmer junction between the engine and the stem that goes to the strimmer head of a petrol strimmer, they are usually red or orange in colour and look like a pyramid shape.

I had one of these whilst stripping a petrol strimmer. Put the wide end on a table there is a cylinder hole which the cylinder fits perfectly into it, there is a locking nut hole at the correct height to insert a cut off nail or Allen key which goes through the side off the strimmer block and straight into the indent on the Alros cylinder.

Make sure the brass is heated first, insert into the strimmer bar receiver put the nail through the hole in the strimmer bar receiver into the cylinder and then turn the cylinder in the strimmer block.

Off it comes easy, I know pics say a 1000 words I'll try to get some done but just a little busy at the moment. I'll await the xtx tool but it was very easy to do and exactly the same in process.

Hope it helps others and a pic or link will follow.

    Red face

    Hi Everyone

So for the time delay taken the pics of the device to get the valves of the Alros and similar in dims. Unfortunately the XTX cylinder release is way to big, but itll come in handy I'm sure.

    Off a Strimmer ...

Inserting a screw in the side hole to lock the cylinder hole

Cylinder in place fits perfectly holes line up all works great.
