What steel is a (very old) piston rod of made of?
The contact area of the sear latching obviously has potential for wear so there must be a known / suggested grade?
This is only to replicate a between wars BSA one so use and therefore wear, would be minimal but I'm considering having one copied due to the rarity of said item.
The gun is a side button underlever with serial S77938 (this also has a 2 underneath the 9 of the long number).
This won't be easy as the old one has been altered with metal removed (reason for the need) and getting the exact shape and profile will be a challenge but I see no other way other than trying to build up with weld and re shaping, still going to be guess work but may be the first course of action.
Also if replicating we'd need to know the piston head end thread type and size.
Ideas?
