I guess i will have to fit a thicker piston sleeve to take up the slack.
Hi guys,
I wondered if anyone has tried a hw97 spring in an hw80. Ive just got one here and was curious to try (which I will) before I purchase anything else. adding or subtracting preload where needed.
Any thoughts on this?

It can work but is a bit weedy for the piston weight. Guides either end are vital to kill twang as the fit is like a pencil in a dustbin.

"corners should be round" Theo Evo .22/.177 - Meopta 6x42, DS huntsman classic .20 vortex razor LH 3-15x42 under supervised boingrati tuning by Tony L & Tinbum, HW77 forest green - Nikon prostaff 2-7x32 plex.
I'm sure I read somewhere that one notable tuner used/or used to use HW77 springs in 80s.
Probably more fiddling involved to get to a desirable end point.
They can work just fine ,the guide is the same.If you have the nylon guide it might be a good fit as some arn't that bad.A sleeve will help & a top hat that fits.
Can be used when chopped in the 35 as well, similar to the 35 Vixen.
Just fitted a 20 mm dia. spring in place of a 23 mm, with nylon outer sleeve to pack the gap, 'cos that's what I was given.
Performed much better than original by my judgement and the owner is very happy. HW35
V-Mach have been doing it for years and now Weihrauch have done it for some time , you dont need the big spring to get 12 ft lbs.

Weihrauch don't, they still have a different spring for every gun. Buy one from the continent or a "grey" import and its fine, unfortunately many HC guns do come with a cut down 77 spring though, same as everything in life it must be more to cut costs than anything else as all they are known for now is the terrible twang.

From memory I'm sure a Diana 34/52 Spring will also fit an 80's guide more snugly...the smaller outer diameter allows for the fitting of a piston sleeve, making it less twangy. I think the ID of a 97 Spring will be too narrow for the guide. I'm probably wrong on all of the above!!
