HW80 piston seal question please gents

I need to replace the piston seal on an HW80. My question is what advantage if any is there to be gained by fitting one of those red seals from Austrailia* over the standard seal, any help or personal experiences would be great to read,

You need to hold the rifle upside down to shoot it if you fit one.

IMHO the new orgininal HW-seals are quite fine for sub-12fpe.

If you go FAC the Aussie-seal is one of the best products available now though may need some sizing.

I fitted a red aussie seal to my HW35 (same size as '80) TBH it was slightly larger than the HW seal and caused a drop in power. You'd either have to size it up or let it run itself in. I still have it I think, in the spares box.

I've tried the red ones they're OK but the original he ones are better and more forgiving .....not the newer ones which I found made the 80 rather snappy but get an early seal if you can
them there springer's are soooooo addictive

    Piston Seal

Stick with the original HW one. Had one fitted to a 77 and not nice to shoot at all. Soon swapped it. Mach 1.5

What is the difference between the earlier original seals and the newer ones out of interest?.

yeah, the red seals are a bit harder, and a little large, so good if you have either an oversize tube, or running FAC.

The blue vortek seals are good, but no real improvement over the std HW item IMHO.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

When you say large Jon do you mean OD or height on the piston?.

    HW80-piston-seal-question-please-gents

    G'day Barrel,

I have an HW 80 [FAC] - deadly accurate and shooting above 16 ft.pds. I put in a standard seal and a standard spring, not one of the locally made ones here in Australia. I have never used the local product only because I don't like to buy over the Internet via Pay Pal, etc.

The red Aussie seals tend to be slightly larger O/D.
They also tend to be a looser fit on the piston making them very difficult to size.
Stick with the standard HW seal. It too may need sizing but easy enough to do.
