    Four HW35 for the chop

My RFD mate struggles to sell HW35 with long barrels. I got another four in to shorten to 13 inches on the lathe and re-crown, then he seems to move them quickly.
All of these seem to have broken springs, I find that they seem to perform nicely with a new spring that has three coils exposed beyond the chamber before fitting trigger block. I see there are three types of safety, none at all, a blind hole safety, and the standard new type.

I don't know why so many people dislike the 35, It's an excellent rifle.

I really need to get a replacement barrel for my 1980s one and would like to add a 35e to my collection.
    Nothing wrong with long barrels

They had no safety until about 1977, then the early blind hole one, then the usual one from 1981.

Bit of a shame to carbine the older ones, in particular. I'd have thought they were of interest to collectors.

Thanks for the info on history.Haven't chopped the one with no safety yet. Will see what it comes up like with the blueing and stock finish. Found my 12 x 8mm polyurethane tube fits the barrel seal socket spot on.

What's wrong with the 35? Love my vixen. I did once see someone use a 35E with HW silencer attached...it was LONG!!! Mach 1.5

I may jest but I wouldn't say no to a long barrel HW35, particularly the walnut stocked export model.

Finished the first one and doing 11 ft.lb after I cut down the gold HW80 spring in the pic above and allowed for three coils as mentioned. A full size HW35 with a silencer looks a bit ridiculous, but with the shortened barrel and a silencer fairly neat. You don't want them much over 11 ft.lb. when cocking the 13 inch barrel on its own. I will refurbish the very old one without a safety and may keep it if it shoots nice. I find that a lot of the old ones need the barrels straightening.

Some don't like the HW 35 but I couldn't care less - I like it and that's what's important to me. The long barrel, the barrel lock, the stock, the power level - great rifle!

I agree. Plus the fact the gun with the 13" barrel is far too snappy compared to the standard length. It is all this fad with Bullpups and ultra short Carbines. If I ever get an HW 35 it will be of a proper length.
