Well, I managed just under an hour at lunchtime today, at my permission, with the HW80. I found a convenient cardboard box and put it out about 20yds, it was a bit windy but not too bad. Probably put about 50 odd pellets through it and to be honest, I wasn't that impressed with the accuracy Tone, it was scattering pellets in 2" groups but not consistently, just when I thought I had the elevation zeroed it would drop a couple of inches and then rise a couple of inches then the same happened with windage. Mmm, maybe it's me I thought, new rifle (to me) and haven't sorted out my hold technique yet ? Anyhow, I went home and decided to put a few pull throughs down the barrel as the rifle has had very few pellets through it since new (I fully trust this information from the very trusted and reputable guy I bought it from) and a fair bit of browny coloured gunk was cleared until clean. I then decided to remove the stock to have a general squint around the action and.. the stock screws and both trigger guard screws were very loose, I could have undone them with my fingers. That alone gave me much comfort knowing that was probably the reason for the poor grouping. So, nice clean barrel, all screws nice and tight and ready to go. I'm confident it will perform much better now but I will have to wait until I get back to my range next weekend

Tonight, I spent a few hours at my permission (HW100 + Nitesite) - three feral pigeons and two rats, not a great tally but I was outdoors and shooting

I will let you know how I get on with the 80 next week matey.

Please forgive me Master but... how often/what % of time would a mole spend above ground ? I'd hazard a guess at less than 10% ? If this is correct and, I beg your forgiveness for being so deviant but... shit man ! If Dave shot a mole, that's well cool innit ???? I've been on this planet 57 years and NEVER seen a mole above ground. Mind you, you don't often see a mole poke its head up in the middle of Baker Street. I still think Daves a Star though *heart emoji*

I bet the '80 will be fine now, matey.

If you get the chance, fire about 30 pellets through it at home to re-lead the barrel as this will save time when zeroing next week.

    Paul
    Shooting moles?
You are moving towards the dark side.... Obviously a mole skin with a pellet hole in it is no good for making trousers

Paul having got himself a .25 has blooming got me thinking about one again, I keep shelving the idea, but it keeps coming back.
So, who currently does one in a Springer?
Supersport? Ummmm, I've fallen at the first hurdle! I'm going to look into this, back dreckly...

Hrm, on the 2nd hand market, the SuperStar underlever is perhaps an often found .25'er, if you must... (.243 cal, so get a pellet sizer). : )

So, are all .25 barrels actually .243 then Phil ? The pellets are tight to insert in mine but not too bad. I remember shooting one of Chris's (Baldinio) rifles in .25 when I went out shooting with him up North and the pellets were a nightmare to insert, if you didn't push it fully home, it would squash the pellet skirt on 'lock up', I cannot recall what rifle it was though other than it had a brown wooden handle and a black metal shooty end

I think the BSA barrels always were (are?) .243, Pauly. Something to do with rationing during the war, IIRC. : )

Mmm, interesting but........ wouldn't a smaller 'hole' in the barrel mean more metal would have to be used

Yeah, I was being sarcastic about that... .243 is a size die (or mandrel, or whatever it is they use for hammer forged barrels), that BSA already had, for the centerfire cal. I think.

You, sarcastic Phil, never and the above makes more sense, maybe Baldinios was a BSA after all as that rings a bell and it was an oldie.
