Is it legal in England & Wales to travel and stay in a motel with an airgun?

We are going to Wales for a few days and visit my son's farm while we are there and I don't want to lose the opportunity to have some airgun fun in a large remote field as I only get to shoot in gardens and the range we like to stay in motels and I would like to keep my gun with me but I am guessing even though I have a reason for having the gun with me it won't be straight to the farm and straight back home.
Any advice please.

I have stayed in Premier inns, travelodges etc with airguns without issue

Sub 12 fpe air gun is fine. That said, you should keep it secure, locked in the boot of a car ammo kept in a different place & don't let folk see it, will be fine.

I know that there's them that would strut about exercising their "rights", but despite the sub 12fpe off ticket nature in England & Wales, ownership & possession in a public place, comes with legal responsibilities.

Plus there's always the chance a motel resident catches sight, calls the police. Leaving you to explain the situation to an itchy fingered armed response unit

It is entirely down to the rules of the motel owner whether they allow an airgun, just like they can say pets are or are not allowed.

Airguns all still fall under "firearms law" and the law states you must have "good reason to be in possession of a gun in a public place" and a car is classed as a public place.
So the argument is couldn't you drop it at the farm first, if you can argue that isn't practical then you have your "good reason"

OTOH what are the odds on anyone ever knowing it's in the boot, slim at best.

Well, if it's not a Diana, and you leave it locked in your boot, if the worst happens (nicked that is) hopefully it won't be too awful ..
Or buy a fishing rod bag, a cello case, or lightstand case, large racket bag etc and just roll in with you discretely/ obviously no questions asked ..

It will be in a locked gun case with my rottie in the back Garding it LOL

Just stay longer and stock up freezer and drive home quicker _

You would be travelling to a place where you have shooting permission, which is covered by the "reasonable excuse" to have the gun with you. Keep the gun locked in the boot of your car and don't make a display of it so no-one has any reason to be alarmed.

When staying in the Premier Inn, either at Hinckley or Melton Mowbray no guns are left in the car
They all come up to my room over night

I live in wales and work in London, my brother own a very big woodland in Essex area I travel from wales to his woodland all the time with my 2 air rifles (one PCP and another springer) both in the boot of my car all guns kept in gun hard case covered with long piece of cloth and both gun got triggers safety on… never had an issue as long it kept away from the eyes and safely locked you should be fine …
