    Simon,

It might help your sale to state the specific model and year of manufacture in the advert. Usually a "Match 54" with no model number means the old pre-1977 1400 type, with a wing-safety on the bolt. But you have a late 1600 action/barrel ('78 going by the curved bolt handle and serial no.) in a 1980s 1811 stock. IMO £400 would be top dollar for any 1400, but a 1600 has a far better trigger, and worth more than a 1400. Although 1600 trigger and bolt spares are almost unobtainable.

Apologies if you have documentation, but are you saying the barrel is selected because the serial number ends in an X? This is a common belief, but it's wrong. The X does not indicate a selected barrel, and every 1600 rifle I've seen has one; I believe that every 1600 rifle has the X, that's about 30,000 rifles made between 1977 and early 1980*. The X refers to the bolt and trigger; at the time Anschutz regarded these as experimental upgrades, a work in progress. They didn't change the model number until making further tweaks for the 1800 rifles in 1980. The 1600 name is a later application, although Anschutz themselves have used it since the '80s . 1600 barrels are usually good though, and can shoot very well if in good nick; "mileage" is important.

    * I'm also not convinced that Anschutz used "special British steel" for 1600 barrels as some say either. The time frame is too large, and it's too neat for a new supply to precisely overlap 1600 production. I think Anschutz were just making good barrels, and folks remember the first rifles with the new bolt/trigger
