There's a thing called brownells whitening paste.. it's basically chalk dust mixed with acetone. You paint it on, the acetone gets in about the wood and the chalk acts as a carrier to soak up anything that comes away.. you let it dry and brush it off... as before you'll probably have to refinish or Re oil any section you apply it to

Thanks everyone for the advice, going to remove the grips and try the eraser first, good news is that the writing is on the 'flat' parts of the grip, so if it all goes wrong I can gently sand it down and refinish with schaftol: http://schaftol.de/English/english.html

    cheers

Where can you buy Schaftol in the UK?

    vbull,

I finished the stock of my Anschutz 250 with Scherell's stock oil, and I was very pleased with the result.

Ordinarily, I would have used walnut oil, but I had ordered a grip for my IZH46M from Rink, and bought some Scherell's from them to see what it was like (Rink apparently use Scherell's to finish their grips).

Ballistol also do 'Balsin' wood care oil, though I have no idea what that is and what it is like.

I applied the Scherell's according to their instructions, and all was spot on

Have fun & a good weekend

    Best regards

    Russ

Is the Schaftol the same as Scherells ?
