Dead on, if you look at the BSA 22 Sight here, it’s the same plate upside down, and other pics of the gun, show there is a grove in the stock for the top of the elevation screw which is missing, now that makes sense. Thanks much, saved me some money.

The front sight (which would presumably be the 'foresight') on that rifle is just a standard one with dovetail fitting and typical bead, so I don't see why it would be called special.
I've had a half-dozen Beezers with peepsights, so they are not too uncommon in the U.S. I should review what's stashed away and see if any could be up for sale...Hickory is not far off.
