IIRC some markets (Ireland?) required a smooth bore for legal reasons. Ive seen a smooth bore Airsporter which had a letter 'R' stamped under the barrel.

Hi Chaps
Although not especially collectable I thought I would ask the question in this forum ,did Webley offer this with a smooth bore barrel option?
The reason I ask is that I have 2 (both .22) and one of which would appear to be smooth bored!

James

No mention of SB in Thrale's book.
I knew I had read it somewhere:
Dennis Hillers Air Rifles, 3rd Edition, page 44 BSA Meteor. 'Have seen one .22 smoothbore, serial number TG21191. It has been suggested that these were exported to Ireland and overseas where rifled airguns are prohibited'. and 'S stamped on the underside of the barrel...'
