BicesterTargets HRS Winter League

Welcome to the first round of the ‘Bicester Targets HRSWL’ held in what can only be described as a very mild sunny, almost windless beautiful day at Meon Valley Airgun Club's Hen woods site. Not what you would hardly call “Winter” or have come to expect from the start of any Winter league, but what a great way for the inaugural start of this new format.

The emphasis of this new format is to allow all shooters of all abilities and ages, to be able to enjoy a competition where everyone can compete on a level playing field, with a mixture of reasonable easier targets to more challenging ones, with the shooter having to decide whether to move off the peg or take the shot from either, supported/unspotted Standing or kneeling.

Judging by the response of the Eighty shooter that attended and the high scoring of most of the competitor’s/teams it looks like this format works very well. The course at Meon was very deceptive with some clever range traps, a certain “Crowziller”comes to mind, and a 14 yarder that several “do-nutted” (by not checking where their 8y aim point fell) with a few of the easier targets catching shooters out by being over confident.

There is defiantly a lot to play for, with the introduction of perpetual trophies for 1st,2nd & 3rd teams in each division, with awards being made to the 5 members of each of the 1st place teams (It doesn’t end there) In the Individual competition, trophies will also be awarded to 1st,2nd, & 3rd places in both division 1 & 2.

Enough Silverware to play for? Not quite…. each division’s highest scoring individual shooter will win a “Top Shot” trophy at each of the 6 rounds plus the honour of wearing the coveted “Tour de HRS” Yellow armbands, and this privilege fell to Vince Blackman & Mick White who both shoot a 59. (can you imagine the micky taking that they will receive at the next round ) all competitors (subject to the rules) will also be awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold HRS Winter League badge at the end of the season.

All in all,a very enjoyable, well organised and run competition, another plus for the day was that all those that turned up went home by early afternoon, with the scores up on the “BT HRS Winter League” web page before they even started their cars.

The HRS Winter League team, would also like to thank all the clubs that are involved, and our sponsor “Bicester Targets” for all their enthusiasm & support in getting behind this new competition.
