    polishing internals

When someone says they have "polished internals" of the air rifle before assembly does this mean filing wire wooling and sandpapering,?

It can be as much or as little as you want to do .
Generally though removing any rough edges with vey fine wet and dry , wire wool , and then maybe a polish up with autosol .
Pay attention to the ends of the springs making sure that they are finished properly and nice and smooth , polish up the top hat or fit a delrin one .
Generally give everything a good smooth finish.

I'd love to have the courage to try this out myself.

It is really as it says, polishing. Take the rough edges off the cocking slot, piston head etc but do not use coarse sand paper or alter the dimensions. Polishing is polishing and not sanding. What you want to do is make the action smooth by removing rough edges. Use fine polishing cream and a demel to finish the job.

    Polish

As previous poster the idea I think from what I see online is to only smooth the touching surfaces not remove the surface ( unless there are physical burrs and jags ) Less is more , then add some greases added before re-assembly .
Am still working the greases bit out - lithium , moly Only thing I know for certain as I keep seeing it said is never ever use silicone oil on fine metal moving surfaces .

It's not as daunting as you might imagine.

I used to think that I would never take my rifles apart and polish up the internals, but once you have done it, you realise that there's nothing to be afraid of.

There's plenty of information and guidance on the Internet. Depending on the make and model of your rifle, you can probably watch some videos on YouTube.

Please no sandpaper ...you will truly wreck your gun for fun...
Try some 600 grade wet and dry ....some prefer 400 ...1000 grade is too fine and too hard work to get anything happening...some say a slightly imperfect finish holds lubes better ....most of my tunes done with 600....
Autosol ok but make sure its fully cleaned out or youll leave in a grinding paste ....
