You can buy expanding bullets just the same as fmj`s.
No licence required.
The exception is some pistol bullets.
can some kind person point me at the recent thread about buying soft point bullets on a Section 1 FAC - or not, as the case may be. Confusion still reigns, apparently, about just WHO can now buy soft point bullets or factory ammunition.
Reason is that my two older Mausers, both 7x57, were made back in the days when the 175gr bullet was a long round-nosed item, not a fancy pointy thing. The long so-called 'pencil' bullet, as used by the Boers during the 2nd Boer War, had almost all the length of bearing surface, unlike a modern-shaped spitzer. Both my rifles shoot these modern bullets like a lawn-sprinkler. Hence my query.
TIA

Even by mail order, except for live rounds of course.

Thanks, Gentlemen.

Some ranges still won't let you shoot it though. Check your range's standing orders or owners just in case.

No problem - there is no longer a distinction.
You wont be asked why you want soft points.
Plenty of guys using expanding bullets for paper punching at Bisley.
Some guns shoot better at close range with flat base bullets.
And most flat base bullets are expanding type!

It's an outdoor range for me, too, the thought of shooting any centrefire indoors leaves me shaking my head.
