Bicester Targets HRS Winter League R2

Round 2 took place in what is fast becoming a firm favourite amongst many of us on the HFT circuit, Black Cat HFT Air Rifle Club in Swindon.

Although the grounds at ‘Black Cat’ isn’t very large and restrictive compared to some other clubs, what the team at ‘Black Cat’ manage to do is make great use of the terrain and wind that is available to them, and they never fail to deliver!

Testament to this was the amount of high praise coming from all the shooters after finishing and commentating on just how challenging a shoot it had been.

With the Strong Northerly winds that were affecting other shoots across the country and knowing from first-hand experience of shooting at Black Cat’s ground in those conditions, it was going to make it a very challenge day. fortunately, we were to find that that the wind wasn’t quite as devastating as first thought, but what wind there was helped to concentrate the mind on what was an expertly thought out course, using the rules to maximum effect.

The leaders have now starting to emerge, in Div 1, Vince Blackman from MVAC shot a solid 56 taking his total to 115 after just two rounds, and Mick White another MVAC shooter holding his top spot in Div 2 with a 53 leaving him clear by 2 points.

Top shots for the day and the new Yellow arm band recipients are, John Copper from Wendover in Div 1 with a great 57, and Keith Sutton in division 2, who out classed everyone with a fantastic 58.

High praise must go to Mike Cripps from Meon, who pulled of a PB of 57 in Div 2 showing the rest of MVAC elite how it’s done! (some lucky wobbles I recon)

In the team event’s ‘Meons’ lucky wobbles are starting to make 1st place in division 1 their own with a 7-point lead over 2nd place Millers Marauders.

Division two’s top slot is in the hands of Bicester Targets A team and are 5 points ahead of ‘Meons Mischiefs’ who took the top team score for the day.

Talking of teams, we would like to welcome a new addition to the line-up, the Wendover Clangers, for those of you not old enough to remember the ‘Clangers’…. well let’s just say they were a very strange bunch of characters (no change there then!)

The team at ‘Black Cat’ have raised the bar and thrown down the gauntlet to the other clubs involved, and I for one, can’t wait for the next round in what is now becoming a very enjoyable HFT winter league format.

We would also like to thank Chris from ‘Bicester Targets’ for bringing along those two very, very lovely looking Nick Murphy (Zenith) tuned Anschutz 9015 Air Rifles in their custom stocks, for everyone to try at the end of the shoot.
