HW 35 won't cock

It was fine yesterday, then today won't cock and I'm running out of ideas.
Tried adjusting trigger , no joy.
Tried without safety fitted no joy.
Piston seems fine.
Trigger operates.
Really can't see why it's not working, any ideas anyone ?.

Cocking lever bent?

Have you tried it with the main spring out? (10 min job).

Yeah I'd go for that if its the old 4 legged guide. One snaps off and the guide may well be out of line.

Spring and guide are good.
Rifle will set trigger and safety with mainspring out.

The voices in my head would say to put it together with the spring back in and see what happens.
Other than that, I'm stumped.

Did you try cocking the complete action with Spring outside the stock ?

I only ask as I've known the rear stock bolt on Weihrauchs to stop the action cocking --- if the screw is screwed in too far it blocks the sear rod from entering the trigger cage.

I going to try another spring as the one in it looks almost coil bound. Shouldn't be really as it's been fine for years and it's only ever run with about 10mm preload.

I was just about to ask how long the spring has been in there and whether, if it was a recent addition, it was getting coil bound? But maybe not. Is the trigger mechanism gunked up? Have any foreign bodies got in there, say between the bearing surface of the guide and spring and also at the piston end of the spring?

P.S....You haven't recently switched stocks have you?

Spring has been in about four years, but it's been used heavily this year.
Everything is absolutely clean.
Nope same old stock.

Going to check the guide rod hasn't moved forward in the piston too, just in case.

How is the latch end of the Piston rod? Could it be worn where it engages with the trigger? Could it be bent upwards reducing engagement with the trigger? Could it have rotated a little And no longer be engaging properly??
