Not exactly the same problem, but I once had a TX200 FAC that quit cocking. The gun had a very old original seal that had gotten squished flat on the face. I put in a new seal and it worked. My point is, it was just a very small amount of lost rearward travel. An FAC TX is very near to coil bind and the piston skirt hitting the guide flange as they come from AA. Varies with each gun, but your gun could have a combination of little spots of wear in the linkage that add up to just enough to be a problem.

Has the mystery been resolved?
It wasn't something daft like someone slipping a spacer in at the back of the spring guide was it?
I did see somethng which may pertain to this:
Herman has issued a recall for all HW35's ever made as they are a shocking afront to everything decent in our modern world. The advice is throw them into/onto the nearest canal, river, bonfire or drowning Labour supporter, and Ze Germans will reimburse you 2 whole guineas!
You know it makes sense.

Ooooh you curse your own grand-mother! How ungrateful.
Without the 35, there would be no 80, no 77 no 97 etc .... A large 'portion' of your tinbumming industry is tied to turning up better bits for these Teutonic twangers.
Yet you would kill the original and dance on it's grave? Shocking. Yet perhaps it is just ignorance.. Someone send Mr Bum an early copy of AGW. In it you will be able to see the only 'quality sporters' were in fact the Feinwerkbau Sport and the mighty HW35. Most people could not afford or get on with the FWB Sport, so for a long time the HW35 carried the torch of being the only 'quality sporter' that a Britisher could buy.
If you want knackers, have a go with a Webley Mk III or a desk-top furnished BSA Airsporter...
I'll have you know I owned a 1983 HW35e, a proper one in walnut, adorned with an Optima Moonlighter scope no less! I fired maybe ten shots but just felt "dirty". I sold it on to Mikehw45 about 20 minutes later.
The recollection still brings a littlle bit of sick into my mouth.

Haven't touched mine for more than a year now.
Just remebered after reading this thread and immediately went down to my man's cave to take the old girl out of its corner and appologized.
Though it's some kind capricious like my wife it was/is my very first airgun and I'll never let it go.
BTW - I fettled quite a number of HW50 (S) and one HW30S.
Sold them all immediately.
HW35 still much better.
