Thanks guys, and many thanks for trying, Norm.
Just for now, I'll order some M7x70mm hex bolts, and I'm sure I can 'dremel' a slot in one for a screwdriver.
Yes, it's a bit of a thing this M7 business... anybody with a custom shape stock and an HW95, 80, 77 MK1, etc - could be in the same boat...
... HW77, there's a thought... the ABT lug from a Mk2+ '77/97 is 7mm on the one end...
No no, it's way too complicated to think about this side of Christmas!
if you get a m8 x1 fine thread you should be ok to re thread it m7x1 you would probably get away with 5/16 x 24 unf as well
what diameter are you limited to for the head ?
edit
Ah just spotted Phil Russel got there before me ........the M10 idea.
'ang on a minute .
I think we did something like this on my chums 97 in an ft stock.
We made a post to replace the long screw idea and turned a nice nut to fit the end .....might have a pic some where ..hold up .....
yeah dunno how to put the pic up .......emailed it to

Cutting a slot with a dremmel would be lots easier than annealing a larger bolt, turning it down, tapping and heat treating.
Walters. they have everything.
the only thing i can find wrong is the nut on the steering wheel.
Don't know if this helps but needed a stock bolt for a Mercury Challenger. Same problem with hex head too big for the recess with drive socket
fitted so just picked a socket to fit the stock recess then filed the flats to fit the smaller socket.
Got some pics somewhere if it helps.
How we getting on mr backer
Not bad thanks, Phil I had my M7 bolts arrive Saturday (they look nice).
I just found the picture you emailed to me - it was in my webmail's spam folder. I've put that right now. Looks a nice job you did there, but the fabrication looks a bit fancy for my skills and tools.
I'm liking DeeJay's idea about idea about reducing the hex head for a smaller socket. I reckon that might just work.
Thanks guys - Phil
