Thanks for the ideas, I could just leave it as it is, maybe go for the Simonize" Tough black satin paint or go for a full reblue
I suppose I could try the paint first and see what it looks like.

A beautiful looking rifle there. Deserves a "proper job" in the form of a re-blue I reckon Although it does look pretty cool as it is. Personally I'm not a fan of painted barrels/actions but its all down to personal preference at the end of the day.

I think it looks rather nice as it is.

Old classic Mauser military rifles were often manufactured with bolts, receivers and other parts left 'in the white' highly polished steel, in company with blued components, and the contrast looks super in nice stock wood.

Won't rust if oiled, as you've probably discovered.

    Diana 38? Or 34S?

    Definitely worth a proper reblue.

Not financially, probably, but it's a nice thing and ought to be restored.

    My opinion, anyway.

I'd either leave as is or get it reblued. I think you'd be disappointed with a paint finish and it would scratch very easy.
    Nice looking rifle.

Yes I think you are right

I was also thinking that it might be a idea to perhaps try a bit of customising like this 52 it also has a polished barrel, I like the gold bits both ends of the barrel, not sure how I could do something like that on my 34.
