    Colt saw BB barrels

I recently saw a couple of videos showing the appalling state of some of the barrels due to cylinders being out of alignment and the steel BBS destroying the breech and bending the first couple of centimetres of the barrel.

One bloke said that some of the hammers clicked four times instead of three and that these should be left well alone.

Is this barrel problem common or has it been addressed by Umarex?

I was going to get one of these from Germany but, even though I would only put Blaster plastic 4.5 BBS through it, I have been put off by the skinny fragile looking barrel.

I now understand why the pellet version is so expensive; rifling would probably necessitate the use of a thicker, sturdier barrel.

Im assuming you mean the saa single action army.
Firstly they are supposed to click four times.. Its a known fact about the clicks and it represents c.o.l.t.
Ive never heard of any of the other problems although i only have the pellet versons..
They have good accuracy and the barrels fine, having had at least 1000 pellets thru it...

    I am sceptical.

    One bloke on the net.
Who seems to like taking these to pieces.
And fanning them, and spinning the cylinders.

May happen with misuse and after thousands of shots.

But by the nature of the gun you wont be putting many shots through them.

Mine seem fine and you have a years guarantee.

    Yes the SAA. Damn spellcheck.

So that is two different men.

So do you think these guns have been damaged by harsh usage?

I would never fan a Colt - even the real thing if I had one - but Umarex are selling one with a very short barrel specially designed for fanning.

Nor am I the type who repeatedly dry fires the gun or spins the cylinder.

When I was not actually shooting the gun it would be left alone on display.

The Norwegian video maker Mr. RuneRebel has also experienced this problem: look at the bb marks at the breech end when he takes off the barrel.

Don't really know what to make of it.

Mr Rune Rebel bought a new barrel from Xavier.
    Both on net.

I think if this problem was widespread we would have heard more about it.

Having seen those videos I asked my RFD about SAA returns.
He said very few and none with barrel damage like that.
He indicated that he suspected misuse on a a few returns anyway.

This is a big gunshop which has sold a lot of these guns -not least to me.

I agree that the rifled barrels are much better than the bb 'tubes'.

All I can say is that I have had no problems with any of my Peacemakers pellet or bb ,whilst accepting that they don't get a lot of use.
I haven't fiddled with or fanned mine tho.

I bought an antique one when they first came out for 'rough use'and this one has stood up well to regular use.
Putting 1000 rounds through one of these requires 166 load/fire operations which I doubt I've come near.

I rate the 7 inch pellet Umarex Peacemaker as the best of the Western guns.
I guess it's no surprise that it is the most expensive one.

    Schofield pellet next.

Crosman Cowboy last as accuracy not as good and I've had capsule piercing issues.
Solved by using Crosman capsules so my fault really.
But I do like the looks and handling of the Cowboy as I am Milky Bar Kid.

I have looked at some of the new plastic bb revolvers; when you cock them try feeling movement in the cylinders if the timing is good there should be none!
Some of them have 2_3mm of movement these are to be avoided.

Surprised that misalignment due to indexing problems could cause THIS mess to the barrel.

It appears that the steel bb hit the metal cap on the barrel, then maybe deflected in the opposite direction and clobbered the sidewall of the barrel, repeatedly until it ruptured - what a mess
