Posting an air rifle to Europe

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who would like to arrange to have a rifle sent from the UK to Greece.
I'd appreciate the advice of anyone with any experience of doing this (either to Greece or to anywhere else in the Euro zone).

    Thanks

This has been asked a few times and i'm sure the most common answer was to ask a exporting company but to also make sure you are not breaking the rules of the country it is going to .

Post 14 here could be an idea. http://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread....porting+airgun

And post 15 on that link

I'm quite aware of the strange airgun postage customs in UK be it whithin or outwards bound.

It's more than a pitty as living on the continent and not beeing able to buy a nice s/h PS, TX,... is more than sadening.

    So a simple question:
would it be possible to send such a damned wanted airgun in one box but disassembled completely?
Disassembled would mean detached stock, piston, compression tube, trigger. Sys-tube and barrel still together. No scope, no silencer.

I did buy airgun spares from UK and got them posted without any problems so hopefully a full setup in parts will not be a problem.

    Tell me please.

As far as I know you can legally send an air rifle out of UK but no carriers will accept an air rifle so in reality you can't (sent a gun stock abroad from UK via ParcelFarce and it was rejected and returned as it was a gun shape). You can have an air rifle posted to your door from a gun shop in the rest of europe to uk though, but not from a gun shop in uk. You can't have a barrel, piston etc. posted to you from uk gun shop to uk address but rest of europe can have them sent from uk gunshop and uk can have them sent from rest of europe.

UK rules, laws etc are a joke

Bri things have changed since 9/11 and ever more becoming problematic, employ a specialist should come in shy of £200 for UK legal, France around £150 cheapest i know by far.
US forget it too much red tape the last 16+ years, why do you think Theoben setup over there - to save at least £500 on every rifle exported.

Royal Mail and Parcel Force do not ship any complete or component parts out of the country but will deliver UK legal goods from the EU.
Who ever the courier is if Border Control/Customs have assessed the goods you never have to sign on receipt.

Cheers for the replies chaps, it's not sounding particularly easy.

I do find it a bit bizarre though? - I've had air rifles sent to me via DHL next day delivery from mainland Europe, with not a question asked.
Going the other way it seems like it's almost impossible and yet quite often the UK is held up as and example of having some of the toughest firearms laws in the World.

Seems to me like it's easy to get guns into the UK, but once they're in - we want to keep them all

I've had gun's sent to me via several carriers but it doesn't mean they were sent legally

Depending on the situation it might well be easier to take it on a cheap flight as personal luggage, provided the company is notified in advance.

The above, fundamentally. Plus as aforementioned the buyer (not you, unless you are doing the accompanied travelling) needs to take care of the legalities his end.
