I've made sure I've got sufficient overall cover. Anything above a certain amount has to be specified on the policy. Just like cameras, jewellery etc.
Having been burgled once and dealing with a claims assessor I wouldn't try and wing it.

It's no great secret that there are a fair few users here who probably have substantial amounts of their hard earned cash tied up in the collections hidden away in their cupboards, I've been wondering if the normal household insurance policy's are really suitable. I increased my 'personal items' part a while since and noticed quite a change in facial expression from the broker when I mentioned what the contents of my cupboard were.
Any thoughts or recommendations?

You could try a specialist broker, which would require you to detail exactly what you have with photos and serial numbers etc.
It's your call on whether you think that your household policy provides enough overall cover for un specified items. As always it's best to keep records of what you have and photographs. I keep all mine logged on a spreadsheet and have it backed up in two places. Photos are in separate albums by make and model.
For extra Insurance a big dog is recommended.
PS - I know a few collectors who have no records at all - you know who you are!!
As above.
The one thing I regret in my collecting over the past 40 years is that I didn't keep a record of who, where and what I paid for the examples in my collection.
