Best method to deal with rust freckling on a collectable gun

I just acquired a Tell 2 and the tube has a good bluing but there is rust freckling that I would like to control. What is the best thoughts on this on a collectable gun.

0000 wire wool and a few drops of gun oil will with some light rubbing remove the rust freckling and leave the bluing unharmed.

An electric tooth brush and tooth paste could be worth a try .

Worked well, really cleaned it up without bluing loss.

Frontier Big 45 if you can get it (Not a problem for you but others may struggle). Looks like a Brillo Pad but made of some sort of alloy swarf like stuff. Only available in the USA and the company will not export but sometimes sold through other retailers on that auction site. I've used it on expensive shotguns with incredible results. Much better than the pure copper pads you can get for removing rust.

Glad you got it sorted. Thats a fine air pistol.

In the UK if its a surface bloom and not pitted yet - try a gentle dab with Duraglit. Its lint or wadding with some type of solvent in a tin. Its quite gentle and will remove surface rusting with no damage to the blue. Seems to neutralise the rust too. Think Brasso did a similar product.

In the US there is probably a jewellery cleaner that will do a similar job.

Climate sure is kind on airguns in parts of the US. There are some beautiful condition Bsa underlevers there - they don't seem to pit. They just go a smooth even blue brown patina. Even the etching survives !

As you say,and above all else,be gentle .

Trying as much as is possible to maintain, conserve the original surface finish.
