Dan Wesson 715's

I have always discounted the Dan Wesson range as being gawky and lumpy looking lightweight monkey metal replicas.
However...... Having seen the 715 range it all looks more in proportion with the correct drum release and a more pleasing (to my eyes) outline. Also, I see that the size and weight of the 4" version corresponds almost exactly to my Brocock Specialist which is my favourite pistol.

So, I would really like a pellet firing 4" 715 in black. But they don't make one. Is the shiny finish on the nickel one good, or a bit variable? Would I be better off with the 6" version in black?

The Dan Wessons are all good and weighty, and very close to their inspirational themes in both size, and (as alluded to) their comparable weight ... Are you sure you are not confusing similar offering from another well known Co2 manufacturer?

Anyway, worry not about the nickel/steel finishing and liveries that the ASG distributed Dan Wesson Co2 pistols sport, as all is good quality throughout without looking too blingy.

I may be, I've had Umarex revolvers, but now you mention it, I'm not sure I've ever held/fired a Dan Wesson one.
I'm heading back to blighty next Sunday and will be sad to leave my Brococks behind. I see a little silver one in my future, just don't inow which. That 2 1/2" looks good, but it expect it will suffer for for and accuracy?

I have the 2.5" and can't praise it enough, although the 4" does put out a few more joules, and is arguably slightly more accurate -- but I'm an air gun slut and let looks guide me all the way, hence me being the proud owner of a 2.5".

Apparently the longer barrels are only partly rifled which put me off a bit. They do look the business though

Hi nick. I was mad for one of these until i tried one. The trigger was so weighty that i never gave it another thought. Its a nice looking toy though.

Well either you were unlucky and tried a rogue one, or you've got puniee fingers (lol) coz I've not experienced any problems with my current one, or my last one (but you are right about the nice looking toy bit, 100% ).

Yes the older Dan Wessons (with push forward S&W style cylinder release) are rubbish, the new 715's are actually a very close copy of the genuine article and seem very nicely made.

The nickel finish is actually really nice and consistent on the examples I have seen, the 'black' is not actually black but is quite attractive.

The trigger pull on the 715's is much better than on the older models and they are pretty decent accuracy wise in the pellet versions.

Probably the best co2 revolver after the Umarex S&W.

The first DWs aren’t that bad and we’re innovative.

So is the 4" barrel fully rifled? I've had the S&W's and can't fault them in use, but that swing out mag sucks the big one!

Yes the 2.5 and 4 are fully rifled.
I had a 6 with a fully rifled barrel but recent ones dont seem to have them.

I've a 6 inch with a full rifled barrel.

I find it weird and confusing that the newer ones only have the first part of the barrel rifled. Not sure how it saves them cash or hassle to do that!!

EDIT : I also have 4 of the older Dan Wessons, all have been great, my oldest one is probably close to a decade old and still shoots great.

What is the rail ?? Looks like a 3/8" to Picatinny adapter ??

I've an unscoped 715, a 2x20 scope and the very same adapter all sat in my airgun cupboard and I hadn't realised I had everything I needed !!

Indeed it is!

I had to do some thinning on the edge of one of the rails to get it to sit 'nicely' on the top of the vent without bruising it. I also flared the shape at the back end to suit the shape on the gun and bring it a little more rearward.
I don't like the official version, plus it is a silly price and I am a tight-git...
