The best way is to compress the image, the easy cheat way to do this is open the picture in paint and then save it.
If you open a .jpg file in paint and then save it as a .jpg again it will make it much smaller.
Yes there is some detail loss, but you're not making a high quality published photo to turn into a poster. It wont notice.
For example (here's one I made earlier)
Original image is 6.6Mb

Shrinks to 4.5Mb

Might make the pics that little bit smaller so they fit, you can also crop to the item to make a very small image and as stated blank backgrounds save a fair bit of size too because they compress easily.
