How do you come to that decision?

On its own the similarity on the bore size means very little.
Other than both being HW's with the same trigger, the handling and shooting characteristics of the rifles differ significantly : the weights are different, the balance is different, loading is different etc.
Given that you've already got a 95, I would go with the 77 by way of variation, but to be honest I'd handle both side by side first if you can - If you've not already shot a 77/97 then you really need to shoot one so you can decide for yourself: break barrel vs underlever is a bit like a front wheel drive car vs a rear wheel drive car - they both do the same basic job but they feel very different in the way they do it.

While I really like the laminate thing, I'd go with the 98 because I much prefer breakers...
Concernng BB vs UL... The awkward loading is one reason i sold my last UL. Uuummmm
Thanks for replies
77 for me, like the shape and look of the laminate stock, would enjoy the open sight option too. Loading not a problem unless you fit a gert stupid scope on it. Quality rather than quantity, no 30mm tubes, just not required imo. Atb Max

I'd go with the hw77 but it's easy for me as I've got a bigtoe short stroke 98 already the hw77 is a very nice looking rifle
The Weihrauch site is showing the Special Edition 77 in a "brown camo laminated stock" which is the new ambi version. I personally prefer the original lamo stock which I think was named "Autumn" and was a available for a very short time.
However, as a southpaw the newer ambi stock would be welcome !
“An airgun or two”………
77 for the above reasons the forest green stock is fxxxxxg cool
LOOKING FOR A BSA ULTRA IN .177 and .25
It'd be the 77 for me - I prefer underlevers and, I'm a bit of a magpie for those laminate stocks.
All of the above.
98 for me. The adjustable stock makes a huge difference
