Out of Town with Jack Hargreaves

Those that remember the gentle Jack Hargreaves and his knowledge of all things country......should these programmes be re-run for todays townies

    Those were the days

I remember really looking forward to every episode, living in a two up two down terrace in the middle of Salford meant anything country was a real escape.

I have watched lots of these recently on YouTube...happy days.

I am spoilt now as I live in the beautiful Sussex countryside

Yes Jack was a great guy who lived not far from us at the time, never met anyone who had a bad word about him.
Yes the current younger generation dont know what they are missing.Talk to whoever now runs Southern Television.

    Out of Town

I was trying to explain Jack Hargreaves and Out of Town to my wife a few days ago, not an easy task as she's from Malawi in Africa and only lived in the UK for 14 years. She is one of the reality TV generation, more X Factor and Big Brother than Out of Town. But with the help of YouTube I managed to give her an idea of what a brilliant TV show this was. Wish it could be shown again. I think I would enjoy it more now than I did back then having now experienced some of the items Jack used to feature. Really used to enjoy the parts shot in the shed, it was like you're in the shed with him. Perhaps a modern version could be made, but would there be the audience to enjoy it? John

The man was an absolute legend as far as I was concerned, I used to watch it with my dad as a kid, out of town inspired me to take up field sports, fantastic show, great memories!

I think the DVDs (I have some) aren't the original programmes but composites of shows that Jack purchased when the original TV company shut down. He then edited a few together and added an extra voice over, you can hear him coughing etc as he's doing it.

    Well worth getting hold of.

And I guess there is extra footage someone owned by his estate?

Loved the programme, as it was an integral part of my childhood. It also got me into a lot of countryside pursuits.
It should definitely be rerun on the telly.
