    Shortest/highest mag/PA scope/HW77

    As title

What scopes do you know of that are the highest mag and short enough to fit on a 77/97. Let's say front of scope at rear of loading bay?

    Multi ret and PA.

    Fixed mag is fine.

MTC Mamba 4-16 fits, Col - so the 3-12 will also.
Bushnell 10x40 is nigh on perfect.

Hope that’s of some use - Craig

Depends on length of your stock and length of your neck Col.

(Hawke SR6 3-12 is quite a big scope, and usually fits for me. Front edge of scope in line with rear edge of loading cutout)

I would suggest a Bushnell Legend 5 -15 * 40 which allows you to use medium mounts. I have one on my HW 77 and cant fault it.

    Thanks for the additional replies.

I know what you are saying. My stocks are shorter and I do lean forward a lot. So that lessens the length.

I have a 4-12x40 Pro Air on a 77. With the rear of the scope set up for me the front of that scope is right on the rear edge of the loading bay.

I also have a 6-18x40 Pro Air and with my head position and my stocks that scope goes well into the loading bay.

So basically ... I need a scope that is the same length as a Simmons 4-12x40 AO Pro Air ... but hopefully higher mag and with a multi ret.

So give or take a little difference in eye relief, it might be a close thing then Col.

If it hangs half way over the cutout - it gets a bit fiddly to load?

The other way, is a much longer scope - where the objective bell is beyond the cutout - and you can load a pellet under the scope tube?

    P.S. There's a Bushy Legend 5-15 x 40 in sales at the moment.

My FT scope goes way over the loading bay but it's way up high so you can get underneath ... but that's in a stock with the cheek up high to match. I'm not sure I'd want to be fiddling under a tube on lower mounts, as the cheek is lower.

I was twitching at a Legend that was for sale last week or so at a good price. I thought the legend was longer than the 12x Pro Air.

Legends are massive, it would need to be well back over the cheek piece to clear the loading port.

Utg compact on one of mine, plenty of room to get that pellet in the port

I've seen legends on 77/97s. Good glass but long as you say. When they've been on lowish mounts and towards the rear of the loading bay the rear end of the scope is way back from the rear of the action.

I probably need something about 12 inches ( okay ... fnar fnar if you need to ).
