R10 low on power..

Hi guys.. Got issues with my r10.. Its dropped really low on power & I'm not sure why. (Haven't chrono'd it but its fluffing the pellets out really slow I can just tell, the trajectory at 25 yards is like it should be at 50 if u know what I mean plus its really quiet & the hammer bounce is a lot flappier.)
I pulled it apart whilst watching XTX vids & cleaned everything apart from the reg & the hammer spring & associated bits and nothing stuck out or looked bad. Put back together and no change... Can anyone point me in the direction of what to look at next? Reg or hammer spring assembly? Should I just get a huma reg & put that in there?

Mine had been working perfectly till the latest arrival of cold weather and now it has lost 2 ft.lbs. I can't understand it but I intend to take the reg out and have a go at cleaning it. Mine is a MKii .22.

Mines a mkii .22 too!!! Lol.. I thought it could be temperature but I think mine is way lower than a couple of ft lbs... I recon it's more like 5 or 6 ftlbs. Its like I said, the trajectory is like I'm shooting 50+ yards and I'm shooting 25!..

Sounds like your reg . If it's new then take it back or fit a aftermarket reg , you could send it off to one of the tuners and have the whole gun set up the way it should be

Funny I don't seem to have the same problem with my HW 100. It was 11.5 ft.lbs two months ago and it measured 11.46, average of 10 pellets, last week.

Is the probe seal ok, although I would have thought that if the seal was leaking that much you would hear the leak. Other then that whip the hammer out to see if anything is fowling or slowing the hammer down.

Personally I've never had a problem with the standard reg and mines a mk1. Although when I tuned the rifle, I did rework the reg along with many other mods.

The BSA reg can be very prone to temperature fluctuations, much more so than a HuMa or Tench reg. There are lots of other reasons for a rifle to drop MV in the cold but it really shouldn't be more than about 0.5FtLb off what the gun is doing in "normal" ambient temps. Although the weather is a bit unseasonably cold here in Manchester we're probably only 4 or 5 degrees colder than average for this time of year and the cold snap will be over soon.
Try bringing the gun in the house, let it warm up for at least an hour and chrono it while still warm if possible (a cardborad box with a few Argos catalogues or phone books makes a decent pellet trap that's fairly quiet to use in the kitchen if you are allowed!).
Although BSA's aren't normally over-lubed at the factory any lube (oil or grease) that has crept or migrated into the hammer assembly will be thicker in the cold weather slowing hammer strike and reducing MV.
A strip, clean, degrease and re-lube may be all you need but remember to chrono at room temp (20 degrees C) as that is the temperature the police and the forensics laboratories will chrono at, if you set a gun for 11.5FtLb at 1 degree ambient it will certainly be close to or over the 12FtLb at 20 C.
If the gun has developed a "power curve" then you could try fitting new O rings to the regulator (make sure you don't disturb the pressure adjustment), which may cure it but the BSA reg design tends to limit itself (lowering MV) when filled over 200 Bar. You will also need to check that the BSA reg doesn't "spike" (cause a rise in MV) around the 100-80Bar fill pressure area. This is a common characteristic of the standard reg. Make certain that if your reg "spikes" it doesn't take you over 12 FtLb.

Yes, I am aware of what we are talking about. In any case I have sorted the problem. Took the bottle off, gave the regulator body a couple of gentle taps and put it back together. Fired 30 shots and only 5 ft/s spread and an average of 565 ft/s with the AA fields.

Its alright mate I've got one but I know what you mean... Just bought a Nikon for the 77 & now the r10's broke.... It was so much easier with 1 rifle but I can't see how its possible to have less than 3 to be honest. I need a 22 PCP for hunting & you simply have to have a springer or two . Anyway..
