Winchester 296 will "demolish" a Hornet case if you use too much; it certainly burns fast enough in my Hornet (and K Hornet)! I still have some Win. 680 which was also a useful powder for the Hornet. Another plus with ball powders relates to the manufacturing process which greatly facilitates the removal of residual acid left over from the nitration process(residual acid greatly promotes the decomposition of nitrocellulose). Therefore, ball powders usually have very good storage lives. All this said, this does not necessarily mean that ball powder is the best for your gun; other powders may produce better results re accuracy and velocity.

Meter beautifully as well. Although not used in a hornet load, when I was using Ramshot I was able to meter damned near smack on +/- 1/100th grain. Superb, just ran like water.
