i can never remember if its heavier pellets for spring guns for a bit more power,ar is it heavier ones for pcps and lighter ones for spring guns

Generally, yes, you'll find that lighter pellets suit springers better.
However, Jim Tyler's excellent works have also enlightened us much in recent times and efficient energy production also has much to do with pellet start pressure / timings.
So, as alluded to up above, many springers will produce higher energy readings with the 8.4 grain JSB derivatives as opposed to the "old accepted for higher energy readings" much lighter RWS Hobby.
Personally I'd avoid the really heavy pellets for springers.
And the firing cycle is often much more pleasant with pellets with a lower release pressure. All dependant on the gun / internal set-up etc.

Usually just use what is most accurate. What's the point of power if you can't put it where you want?
JSB RS usually give the highest ME in a springer - often the best accuracy too...
