On that note Jim what was the stroke before you went for 70 mm?

The early HW55 models did have a fixed spring guide ..
At a later date this feature was changed to the separate guide, not sure at what date that was done though?
I would remove the piston seal adapter and replace it with a leather seal as it should be.

From memory, 65mm. My HW55 does have the fixed rear spring guide, and I'm guessing the one originally in yours was probably deliberately removed because it wouldn't fit inside a beefier after market spring.

Thanks again. Must get on with it! I'm suspicious about the trigger unit. Has wear consistent with age and pre safety frame with stop pin above main sear but
the sear fouls the slot in main cylinder so has to be depressed to unscrew the block. Read somewhere that early 55T had match trigger later became Rekord for 35??

Having repaired the barrel latch, cocking lever, and trigger unit the rifle operates around 7.5 ft.lb. but cocking sounds like a demented bird scarer.
The spring diameter seems wrong at 20.5 mm Titan lists the No 7 which I think is 19.75 mm so promising.
Would be good to know the spring spec. others have. Thanks for looking.

I have disassembled my 1962 HW55T to take the measurements for you.
Spring has o.d. 19,8, inside 14 and it has 28 coils.
Diameter of the guide is 13,5.
If you get the same problems with a correct spring fitted, you cocking arm is bent.
