    Google and air guns

I have been reading with some interest all of the information that as been emerging regarding the future licensing of airguns etc. It struck me that there may be a way that we could possibly have a slightly more positive effect but I dont know whether it would work.
The bad press is easy to find - the sensationalist newspapers make a meal of anything to do with airguns and it would seem that the writing is on the wall as far as licensing is concerned. However I think that most people these days when they want to find out about something that they are unsure of head straight over to google and do a search. So here is the challenge - could we make a thread on here and on other airgun forums entitled something like "dangerous airguns" (it would have to be short, simple and the keywords that we wanted) and then continually fill it with stories and anecdotes of safe, lawful and proper use of air rifles used in safe and regulated environments?? Wouldn't it be nice if the first thing folks found when they googled it was what we wanted them to read not what the antis wanted them to read??

    Your thoughts?

definitely a great plan. Its a shame the anti's try to ruin things for everyone. If they actually open their eyes to the bigger picture and maybe even attended a club or bash to actually see what a fantastic sport/hobby airgunning actually is, they may actually enjoy it. Many people, upon hearing the word airgun picture a spotty teenager shooting windows out etc. Positive press is definitely the key.

absolutely! The general public never hears our voice. I have put this same thread on the other well known forum as ideally we would need the while of the airgunning community to get involved. You would need admin to set up a thread and bring it to the attention of members along with the idea behind the content. Google continually scrapes the internet for content including forums - the trick is to make the content big enough and busy enough to attract the attention of the search engines.

You dont need any separate web page - you just need a thread on here that is massive and added to regularly.

Its the title and content of the thread that are crucial. The title MUST include the words that we want the google hits for ie airgun and dangerous ( or words along those lines)and the content MUSTbe all positive!

While I applaud the idea, if it's an anti (or journalist) looking for horror stories they'll simply dismiss any & every pro-airgun story, because that's what they do .

My opinion too. They would go with the Rspca or Cats protection views first or Mumsnet.

First hit on Google when searching dangerous airgun

How many views would your post need to beat that to the top of the list?

The recent Squirrel shooting story in the Daily mail online that included Si Pittaway not long back was a friend of my wife's son . Not met him but my wife said he was the type that wanted to shock an awe people and his views were the only views he would entertain .

He is moving abroad or has moved now and hopefully he wont be writing for the Daily Mail online any more .

I know that journalists are toolbags and its not them I am worried about. i just think that it would be handy if a member of the general public or anyone else for that matter found good news when they searched using those terms rather than bad.

sounds good neil but how many people read the newspapers and see the negative against seeing the positives ?

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/...er-who-9028209

Mike Fairclough is the head teacher of the controversial West Rise School in which children are taught to shoot guns, use knives and all manner of outdoor survival skills.

The primary school head, who encourages kids to do clay pigeon shooting, was lambasted by angry Twitter users who claimed it was a 'disgrace' that he was teaching youngsters to skin rabbits and other forest animals.

Even host Susanna Reid said she was a little scared as the head teacher showed off his personal rifle that he uses to teach the kids. Although the weapon was not loaded, Susanna still said she felt afraid and uneasy.

Nevertheless, Twitter turned on Mike with one person tweeting: "Fuming at that head teacher! Teaching kids to kill animals and use knives and guns. Idiot should lose his job."

Another said: "I wouldn't want my kids learning how to kill animals and playing with knives. I don't care how many adults there are watching them. It's mad."

    watch the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PHUhm9fwRc look at her and listen to her comments on the airgun.

Mike is teaching Kids the safe handling of gun and knives and eating from the land and the public are baying for his blood

That's what your up against .

Im not saying we should not try but I am saying it's going to take a lot of convincing to change what is already there and it may be too late in relation to licensing .

This forum has been on the press's radar and a story published in the past.

Never mind the guns and knives part, I wouldn't want my children's headmaster to be a 70's pornstar!!

Well it seems that support for this idea is sketchy at best both on here and the other forum so I will leave it alone. No good flogging a dead horse.
