    Blackrider,

When I hunted, years ago, I used a Simmons WTC 1.5-5x20 on my 0.22" LR rimfire.

I used it almost exclusively on 3x.

Today, for general purpose air-rifle shooting, I would probably choose a scope of 4x or 6x.

Have fun & a good weekend

    Best regards

    Russ

Within my experience (finances mean I haven’t had a lot of scopes) fixed mag scopes have better optics than variable for the same money.

10x fixed mag, no IR, fine reticle marking.

4-6x man myself. I've done hft on 5x too.

Don't feel the need for anymore. I wish there were a few more fixed power options out there. A Hawke Vantage/Airmax/Panorama 6x42AO would probably be about perfect.

    Most often, a 2.5x20 and a 1.5-5x32 set to 3x. I also use a 1.5x20 and a 4x32. The biggest scope that I've ever owned was a 6x45.

Just bought and fitted a Nikko Sterling 4x40 AO half mildot complete with mounts from the site sponser; very happy with it. I have had (and sold) larger objectives but want to keep the weight down. Did not want to drop to 32mm due to slightly smaller exit pupil. Do not need higher mag or zoom (which also reduces exit pupil). The 4 x 40 is ideal for me; the AO is a real bonus.

I use a 3-12x32 viper connect and leave it on 10x when hunting because it still has a very large field of view at that mag .Best scope out there for air rifle hunting in my opinion . But some people are unlucky and can’t get used to the near zero eye relief .

Yea, no use on the springers though

Ive just bought another cheap £24 Richter fixed 6-40 mildot, I turn the front lens in one turn and have nice clear vision from 15 to 50 yds which is my airgun ranges and a nice feild of veiw for quickly finding target, I allready have one bought for £7 off flebay and its proven reliable.

Id like a 6-40/42 hawke panorama if ever made

Don’t discount the connect for use on a springer especially a tuned one as quite a few do use them and can’t rate them highly enough .

4x or 6x mag does me for all except being rested up punching paper or warren watch when I was into that sort of thing. i.e. when we still had bunnies.

It's not very often my scopes move any further than 8-12x mag that seems to cover all my air rifles and my powder burners.
