I have a blued steel breech for a crosman 22xx that I want to strip the bluing from - is there a household or easily obtainable chemical that I can use to do this?

Birchwood casey do a blue and rust remover liquid.
White vinegar will but is quite weak.
Hydrochloric acid would probably do a good job. Something like patio cleaner contains a good amount
Oxalic acid should work as well. That can be found in stain removers or worktop cleaners, like 'Barkeepers friend'
If you get desperate, blood removes it too
Jenolite rust remover gets rid of blueing a treat. I accidentally found this out at the age of 15 when cleaning the slightly rusty barrel of my beloved HW35. oops
Right, thanks chaps - now to see what they have available in the convenience shop over the road!

eyebull,
If you heat the white vinegar, it will remove the bluing more rapidly.
Have fun & a good weekend
Best regards
Russ
Sorted now, but thanks
The white vinegar worked rather well. I've saved most of it so if I have to do it again in future I can heat it up.
