As editor of the Facebook JB page I was shown a Theoben compliment slip with a handwritten scrawl from Ben Taylor. It was in a large box that had arrived at the BSA factory soon after the SuperTen was launched. The note read, “I wanted to see what you lot were up to so bought a Soupa Ten and took it to bits. We all had a good laugh but cant be bothered to put it together so thought you might like it back”
The box and compliment slip were given to John Bowket by the BSA MD after he had taken a copy of the note to remind him of the level of his competitors! JB told me he never understood how the “money man” behind Theoben or Dave, both were nice chaps he said, put up with Ben. Little wonder even El Gamo turned down the opportunity to buy Theoben while they were on the market for years on end.
