    Batteries by post.

    Hi
Can you send batteries by post.
When ever I send some thing in the post they ask me if there are any batteries enclosed.. can't remember if that's for UK or worldwide... I've got a tracer torch with batteries to post to Sussex.
    Cheers

I posted a tablet PC to Neil off here a week back and i told the lady it had a lithium battery and she stuck a hazard sticker on the parcel.

Tell them it has an internal battery and see what they say . It will go by road rather than fly I would think

Recently I have had lithium batteries and alkaline batteries delivered to me.

The lithium batteries came with a sticker warning of contents.

The alkaline just came in normal packing.

I have never had problems when ordering batteries online ... never noticed a 'batteries inside' or whatever sticker on the package either.

    Batteries

I was told recently by my postmaster that as long as they are fitted to something or in their original blister pack then OK but no loose ones.

I sent off a shed load of photographic kit with batteries and it all got there OK.

    Read the RM rules

It depends on the type NiMH, NiCad, Zinc-air, Zinc-chloride, Lithium etc.

rule of thumb working batteries inside the device are OK.

Yes, if sent with the device, but not if sent alone.

Daft, but those are the rules.

Not too daft when you consider it's due to Lithium Polymer batteries not having a hard case.
The Polymer based batteries are quite literally a plastic bag of highly volatile chemicals. They're not meant to be 'outside' of a device.
It's annoying the rules also affect normal hard case batteries like Lithium-Ion too but it's better than the firestorm that's let loose when a LiPo battery is abused and we cant expect postmasters to be experts in battery tech. Hell it's bad enough convincing them of what they can and cant post
By abused read: gets too hot, bent, dented, punctured, shorted, squeezed.
Any of the above tend to result in a chemical fire so intense it will happily burn underwater.

Not a great idea if you can drop a postbag and have it incinerate itself. battery's inside devices are generally safe from immediate harm.
