Has anyone a view as to the best type to buy please. Are the posh flock covered ones worth the extra or will anything black and white do the job? I've tried leaving a shot one down,,but the cats rag it to bits in no time

I always use the 'plastic' decoys, they look realistic and get them down. I also use food scraps, bin liners and empty sandwich wrappers alongside as well (which I always clear up afterwards).....

Thats a good idea,,,I hadn't thought of using bait like that. Thanks.

Magpie deeks may fool you and me, but Magpies are way cleverer !!

The owl might work.

Pizza boxes with some scraps in. Eggs in the spring. lumps of meat/fat. Someone said oranges, that was on here a loooong time ago.

I use the small flapping Owl, couple of plastic magpie deeks and a 35mm film canister with about 25 BB shot given four rapid shakes, at intervals, this believe it or not supposedly imitates the maggie!! Thing is it actually works, for me anyway, listen for an answer (from the maggie) then repeat above. Warning!! you,ll look and feel like a right prat, but like i said it works. A mate makes a false nest in which he puts hens eggs and puts a large owl deek close by he reckons this works also, personally i think the men in white coat will be knocking at his door one day soon.
One things for sure, the less Magpies there are, the more song birds you,ll see.
