BSA DS1973... is this a Lightning?

    Hi Chaps,

I have a really nice little BSA break barrel with barrel weight stamped DS19731. I assumed this was a lightning but I am not 100% sure now at all. The rifle is working well and is very useful as it is small and pointable but I would like to know for sure for future reference, spares etc.

Also as this is a carbine was there a rifle version? Blue book of airguns is no good and google searches are just giving me more doubt.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can show us a photo then that may help or,

    What's the barrel length?

Does it have open sights or threaded holes to mount any?

How big is this barrel weight you speak of and can the end cap be unscrewed easily or does it run along most of the barrel?

The number you've supplied according to John Knibbs can either be a Lightning, Lightning XL or a Supersport.

Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in

Thanks Pete I will supply a few pics tomorrow after I get in from work. The rifle is indeed a titch but powerful. I am a bit relieved that it could be one of three models as I was beginning to think my limited mental prowess had abandoned me. I was feeling like Forrest Gump.

    Hi,

The rifle is 38" long, the barrel is 15" from the breach to the tip of the barrel weight and the barrel weight itself is 4" long. Just had a plink with it and the rifle is fairly accurate (more than me anyway) and still powerful....pic below.

Any ID help would be appreciated, thanks

I have no idea so you could be right, I am assuming that this must be a carbine? If it is I think I must add a Supersport rifle to my wants list. Whilst people are looking at this BSA could I ask if the Beeman C1 was ever on sale in the UK? That was a BSA originally?
