    If they're really close you won't need a scope, the open sights it comes with will do fine. quicker target acquisition too.
    Practice a lot first.
    To encourage the rats to stay still for a few seconds, use a smear of Nutella 6" up on a vertical surface.
    Anything mobile likes bits of bread will be whisked away in a split second.
    A thoroughly wetted slice of bread works though!

    I know it doesn't fall into the theme of the thread, but if you really want to get rid of the rats, use traps. Several big nippers, shielded from cats, will do the trick admirably 24/7.

    if the budget can stretch, a gamo phox package at £440. Comes with rifle, synthetic stock, moderator, 10 shot mag, scope, mounts and pump to pump it up. available in .22 and .177. Lightweight, recoilless and quiet!
