Looking for a BSA Meteor John Bowkett tuned

Hi, I'm looking for a JB tuned BSA Meteor. I've understood that he worked his magic on lots of Meteors in the eighties, via ads in the airgun magazines. 25 pounds for a tune, upping the power, whilst keeping it smooth to shoot.
    Cheers, Louis

Ps. A photo of my Meteor Mk1, which shoots surprisingly well. I bought it recently from the first owner, who looked after the little gun very well. It produces 9.5 ft/lbs and came with the original plastic scope, which adds to its charm. I will put a better scope on it though.

    I'd like one too.

My copy of March 1985 SAR had a mini-review, annoyingly short on detail, but clear that it came close, in .22", to 12 ft-lbs with Hobbys. Worryingly, "Prometheus gave the best accuracy" (group size not specified).

    Nice Stock

It’s a bit off topic, but what is the stock on your Ultra? It makes the rifle look a lot more classy than the original stock.

Hi, yes I agree, I love this stock. It's actually a BSA Techstar. It was designed by John Bowkett for the US market. The importer Compasseco (now Pyramid Air) wanted an entry level high power pcp with open sights.
It was also named the Tech Star, Stinger, Westerner. Apparently the Americans didn't like the simple stock. But those who bought one, usually find it their best airgun. I love it.

The stock is based on the Lightning/Spitfire stock. They aren't for sale anywhere. But I am thinking of replicating a few.

    Cheers, Louis

Ps. Mine does not have the opens mounted on the photo because then you can't use a scope.
Here's a nice little report about the gun by Tom Gaylord "BB Pelletier":

I wonder if Bowkett would take a stock Meteor and tune it today?

I have asked him but he is too busy with pcp work.

If all you want is a full power meteor, it's easy enough

Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Hi Shed tuner, thank you for your "tip" and please excuse me for my very late response. I have read the thread about the full-power Meteor. And I will certainly try it out! Yesterday I picked up an incomplete Meteor Mk5. That will be my "test plant".
    Best regards, Louis

Jon's is much better than Bowkett's one, and cheaper as you won't need to have your fillings replaced after using it.
