    Question BP loads please ?

    picked up a Thompson Hawken .45 smoothbore, loaded many a BP pistol but this is first rifle, so what size ball and how many grains, plus do I need to patch the ball, thanks in advance guys, know some one will put me right cheers Tezz

    if your bore is spot on .45 you will need a .440 ball and .010 patch,
    30-40gr to start, No 11 cap if its a percussion,
    I found lubed patches to be better, but with a smooth you will get away with either,
    if that is a loose fit ,up the ball or patch size till you get a nice smooth, not to tight load,

    Is is a smoothbore or a rifle?

    If it's smoothbore, then it's not a rifle, by definition. Can you tell me a little bit more about it? I've not come across a smooth-bored Hawken-style firearm before.

    I have a smoothbore kentcky style shotgun made by armisport, it can be quite accurate for a smoothbore if I do my bit.

    hawken

    I have a .60 smooth-bore Hawken,
    shoots well out to 50m and is a great piece of fun,
    but if you want to shoot comp or distance,
    its back to the .45 or.50 rifled,
