Cool Sussex Interclub HFT 2018 - Round 3 Results

    Hi All

This set of results, for Round 3 of the 2018 SIHFT contains no fewer than two apologies; keep an eye open for them.

The first is easy to spot – my apology for posting this page so late. Usually done on the day. But I was simply too cream crackered Sunday evening to haul out the keyboard and start playing with the spreadsheet.

Right …. Back to the normal start of the thread.

Great day, I thought, with no hint of the threatened rain, thunder and lightning some forecasters were predicting.

With almost no wind too, I had suspected that the best of our best SIHFT entrants would be queuing up to collect Clear Round badges. No one made it, though one was very close with Roger D just a single point short of the magic 60. Top shooting Rog. What was also great to hear was that there was a significant bunch of Personal Bests, including Sarah Vickers, Spencer Bailey and Greg (AA) W. Well done to you all.

One target which seemed to catch out quite a few of you (well, just over 50% of the field) was lane 17. A small bird/tweety “at range”. Here comes the 2nd apology, but this time a double-header. The target was indeed a small bird with a small kill – 20mm. For at least one earlier comp at Swallows, this has sat on a horizontal log around 17-18 yards away. As course setter, I was determined to push it back a little. Close to the max distance for that kill size (30yds) was a handy tree and a new mount was made for it and placed the day before the comp. On the morning of the comp., the course was checked by the course-checking master – Simmmo - and he OK’d everything. As it happens, we both got it wrong. When carefully measuring with a tape after the comp., it was found to be 66ft – or 2 yards over the max. There were, of course, at the end of the day calls to have the target ‘pulled’, but those making the call had forgotten the SIHFT rule which says – very simply – that once a course has been checked then no target will be pulled for a rule infringement. We like that rule and we’re sticking with it.

Anyway, here is the full set of results ….. (rubbish layout of the 'table', I know. Just an ongoing battle between my PC/Excel and the BBS editing tools)

Prize drawer winners today were :
    • Richard Simpson – the £33 cash prize, and
    • Don Vickers – the Air Arms goody bag

A very clear win in this Round's Team scores today for Buxted, 16 point clear of the Oakies, brings them just 1 point sort in the cumulative total:

    Club Round 3 Cumulative Points
    Oaks 272 35
    Buxted 288 34
    Meon Valley 269 28
    Horsham 267 26
    Ford 259 24
    Swallows 263 20
    Maldon 230 19
    Iden Fern 252 18

Ford, Iden Fern and MAD all required lucky-dip cards, Iden needing just 1, Ford 2 and Maldon getting 3 cards (the max allowed).

Happy shooting wherever you are until we meet again in three weeks (17th June) at Horsham.

I always enjoy shooting at Swallows, and Round 3 on Sunday was no exception.

Thanks to Mike, Vince and everyone else involved in making the day happen, and to Kevin and Mike for their excellent company and first rate banter (and for acting as my chauffeur, Mr Seagrave!)

Really good to see Glen coming in with a thumping 58 - most excellent shooting, sir!

Simon Whittick's result updated after it was pointed out (thank you - really) that he had achieved a 53 and NOT a 43.

This lifts him to earn a Silver badge and a place in the Horsham Hawkes team. The team score also rises by 2 points to 267. Team places not affected by this.

Just shows that it's worth 'calling' a published result. I'm always happy to check and make corrections where we find an error.

Very many thanks, Mike, for sorting out Simon's score and for the additional points for the Horsham Team. Thanks also to everyone at Swallows for a great day's shooting. Only two stoppages - must have been some kind of record?

    A brilliant day!

    Thanks from the Hawks.

    Phil
